Is the user guide multi-language?
Yes! The user guide is in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese.
Is the ESSENCE compatible with Linux?
While Linux is not officially supported, we have been informed by our customers that the ESSENCE works on Linux without issues.
Which music software do you recommend?
We recommend software which supports FLAC files, the most popular lossless file format.
Windows: On our Windows computers we use JRiver, and good free options include foobar2000 and MusicBee. Whichever software you use, make sure to enable WASAPI output in the settings (called "Windows Audio Session" in iTunes). Mac: If you're using a Mac computer, you can use iTunes (though FLAC files are not supported), although we prefer Audirvana or JRiver for the best quality. Linux: There are several players available for Linux, such as Rhythmbox. Although expensive, Roon is an increasingly popular choice among audiophiles, and it's available for Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
Our favorite music streaming service is Tidal (with the "HiFi" plan) as all songs are as a minimum FLAC, and recently 24-bit MQA files have become available (called "Master"). Be sure to enable "Exclusive Mode" in the settings. If you use Spotify, be sure to upgrade to the Premium plan for much better quality, and enable "High quality streaming" in the settings, though the quality will still be below what Tidal offers.
Are you developing a subwoofer?
A subwoofer is currently in development, and the design will be complementary to the ESSENCE. It will also feature a cast aluminium enclosure. However, it is unlikely to be available before the end of 2018. If you can't wait that long, email us and we can offer some recommendations for reasonably priced alternatives. Most subwoofers are compatible with the ESSENCE's 3.5mm Sub output. If your subwoofer doesn't have a 3.5mm input, 3.5mm to RCA cables or adapters are readily available.
